Roger Warrick has carved a veritable gold mine niche in motorsports art with his series of “what if” gatherings of drivers spanning several eras. His latest appears to be an illustration for an AutoWeek story on their All Time Indy 500 Grid.

I Am Not Mindy

I had heard that there would be IRL testing at Kentucky Speedway last night. Steve, whom I’ve been working with the last few months, emailed the track to confirm that Ryan Briscoe would be shaking down Penske’s third entry for Indy from 5-10 as a side gig from his Penske ALMS duties.

On a whim, Laura and I decided to road trip down in the MINI, and watch for a bit from behind the gift shop outside T3.

When we got there a little after 6, five or so people were hanging out with the track silent. Shortly after the last person wandered off, a rather Buford T. Justice-esque security guard rolled up in a Ranger to inform us that we shouldn’t be there, as viewing wasn’t permitted after the gift shop closed at 5. I pointed out what Steve had been told via email. He relented that we could stay, just keep out of the way of the crew filming on the balcony behind us.

I waited another half-hour or so before giving up, as the ambulance wasn’t in position, and the safety truck guy in T3 kept walking around talking on his cell. That told me Briscoe wasn’t going out anytime soon, so we headed back north.

Steve got there shortly after we left, and Briscoe made several runs between 8 & 9.

I am not Mindy, indeed.

(Hey, Hey)

Spent the weekend at Mid-Ohio for a NASA weekend. Was pressed into duty on Friday to help instruct the Competition Licensing course for The Mid-Ohio School. The rest of the weekend was lots of car hopping to instruct and otherwise offering help drivers.

Dad’s student was the owner of Buschur Racing, a prominent Mitusbishi EVO tuner. I ended up working with him for a session, and he asked me to drive a few laps in his Eclipse, so those were the first 6 cylinders of the weekend.

On Sunday, I worked with a guy who’d just finished building a Factory Five Cobra. He had me take him out for part of a session, so 8 more cylinders for the weekend tally.
